Premarital Counseling in Show Low & the White Mountains
You've planned the venue, the guest list and the flowers. Premarital counseling helps you plan for what matters most: a marriage where you both feel safe, heard and wanted for decades to come. I work with engaged and newly married couples in Show Low, across the White Mountains and online throughout Arizona.
What we cover
Conflict. How each of you handles disagreement, and how to repair when things go wrong.
Family patterns. What you each learned about love, money, roles and conflict growing up, and what you want to keep or change.
Expectations. Careers, children, faith, finances, household roles and time together.
Intimacy. Honest, comfortable conversations about affection, desire and sex, including for couples waiting until marriage.
Staying connected. Rituals and habits that protect your friendship through busy seasons.
How it works
Most couples meet for sessions in person in Show Low or online. We draw on research-based tools from the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy, tailored to your relationship and values.
Wedding-day sessions
Big days bring big feelings. A short, private session on your wedding day can help you both slow down, calm your nerves and step into the day connected. Wedding-day sessions are available in person in the White Mountains [or at venues elsewhere in Arizona] and online. Insurance is not accepted for wedding day therapy. Wedding day sessions are $250 for a 60 minute session and include travel to the venue within the White Mountains.
Planning a White Mountains wedding?
From lakeside ceremonies to mountain cabins, the White Mountains are a beautiful place to begin a marriage. If you're marrying here, premarital sessions can happen online in the months before, with a final session in person when you arrive.
Fees
Premarital sessions are $185 for 60 minutes.
Premarital questions
We don't have problems. Do we still need premarital counseling? Premarital counseling isn't about fixing problems. It's about building skills and understanding before stress arrives.
Can our faith be part of premarital counseling? Yes. We can work within your values and traditions, including how they shape your expectations about marriage and intimacy.
Can we talk about sex before marriage? Yes, at whatever level feels comfortable. Many couples appreciate a safe place to ask questions they've never been able to ask.
When should we start? Ideally three to six months before the wedding, though any time before or after is helpful.
