Neuropsychotherapy in Show Low & the White Mountains

You already know the patterns: shutting down when your partner raises their voice, saying yes when you mean no, bracing for rejection that never comes. Neuropsychotherapy helps you understand why your brain and body learned to protect you this way, and how to teach them something new. I offer brain-based therapy for individuals and couples in Show Low and across Arizona's White Mountains.

What is neuropsychotherapy?

Neuropsychotherapy brings what we know about the brain into the therapy room. It looks at how early experiences shape the nervous system, and how basic human needs for connection, safety, control and self-worth drive the patterns we repeat. Because the brain keeps changing throughout life, new experiences in therapy can build new, healthier patterns.

What it looks like in session

  • Understanding your wiring. We map how your history shaped the way your brain reacts to closeness, conflict and stress.

  • Naming your needs. We identify which core needs feel threatened in your relationships, and how you've learned to protect them.

  • Practicing new responses. In session, you practice new ways of responding while your nervous system stays settled, so change can take hold.

  • Bringing it home. Small, repeated practices between sessions strengthen the new patterns.

Who it helps

  • People-pleasers and former "responsible children" who lose themselves in relationships

  • Anyone who reacts to their partner in ways they later regret

  • People carrying family-of-origin patterns they want to end

  • Couples who want to understand why they each react the way they do

My training

I'm an Arizona Licensed Clinical Social Worker and PhD candidate in Clinical Sexology and certified in neuropsychotherapy. I weave brain-based understanding into couples work, individual therapy and sex therapy.

Brain-based therapy in the White Mountains

Sessions are in person at my Show Low office, serving Pinetop-Lakeside, Snowflake, Taylor, Heber-Overgaard and the wider White Mountains, and online anywhere in Arizona. You don't have to drive to Phoenix for brain-based relationship therapy.

Neuropsychotherapy questions

Is neuropsychotherapy the same as a neuropsychological evaluation? No. A neuropsychological evaluation is testing done by a neuropsychologist. Neuropsychotherapy is talk therapy informed by brain science. I don't provide testing.

Do I need to understand neuroscience? Not at all. I explain things in plain language, and most people find it a relief to learn that their reactions make sense.

Can this approach help couples? Yes. When each partner understands what the other's nervous system is protecting, it becomes easier to respond with compassion instead of defense.

Is neuropsychotherapy available in Show Low? Yes. I offer it in person at my Show Low office and online throughout Arizona.
