Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples in Show Low & the White Mountains
When the fights keep circling back, or the silence stretches for days, it's rarely about the dishes. Underneath is a question every partner asks: "Are you there for me?" Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) helps couples in Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside and across Arizona's White Mountains answer that question with a clear yes.
What is Emotionally Focused Therapy?
EFT is a structured, research-supported approach to couples therapy built on attachment science: the understanding that we're wired to need a safe, responsive partner. Instead of teaching you to argue better, EFT helps you understand the cycle you're caught in, and the fears and longings beneath it.
How EFT works
De-escalation. We map your negative cycle, often one partner pursuing and the other withdrawing, so you can see the pattern, not each other, as the problem.
Restructuring the bond. With support, each of you shares the softer feelings underneath and learns to reach for and respond to each other.
Consolidation. You practice your new way of connecting until it holds, even under stress.
Who EFT helps
Couples who feel like roommates
Partners stuck in pursue-and-withdraw fights
Couples healing after an affair or betrayal
Partners where one shows love by doing and the other longs to be emotionally seen
Couples facing life changes, like new babies, empty nests, retirement or relocating to the mountains
My EFT training
I'm an Arizona Licensed Clinical Social Worker trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy at the level of Externship . I combine EFT with body-based tools, so each of you can stay calm enough to stay connected.
EFT couples therapy in the White Mountains
In-person EFT sessions take place at my Show Low office, a short drive from Pinetop-Lakeside, Snowflake, Taylor and Heber-Overgaard. Couples farther out in the White Mountains, like Springerville-Eagar, can meet online, and EFT works well over video. For focused, faster work, EFT-based couples intensives let you spend a day or two in the pines on your relationship.
EFT questions
Is Emotionally Focused Therapy effective? EFT is one of the most researched approaches to couples therapy. Studies have found that most couples see significant improvement in their relationship.
How long does EFT take? Many couples work together for 12 to 20 sessions, depending on what brings you in. Couples healing from betrayal often need longer.
Can EFT help if my partner shuts down? Yes. EFT was built for exactly that pattern. It helps a withdrawing partner feel safe enough to open up, without being blamed for pulling away.
Is there an EFT therapist in the White Mountains? Yes. I offer EFT couples therapy in person in Show Low and online for couples anywhere in the White Mountains and across Arizona.
Can we use EFT in a couples intensive? Yes. Intensives use the same EFT process in half-day, full-day or two-day formats in Show Low.
