Attachment Therapy in Show Low & the White Mountains

You want to be close, but closeness makes you anxious. Or you want connection, but the moment someone gets near, you need space. Or both, in the same day. These aren't character flaws. They're attachment patterns, the ways you learned to stay safe with the people you depended on most. I help women, men and couples in Show Low, across Arizona's White Mountains and online throughout Arizona heal those patterns and build real security.

Attachment wounds can feel like

  • Panic when someone doesn't text back, or pulls away even a little

  • Needing reassurance, then not believing it when you get it

  • Shutting down or wanting to be left alone when things get close

  • Being drawn to people who are unavailable, inconsistent or intense

  • Losing yourself in relationships, or keeping everyone at arm's length

  • Wanting love and fearing it at the same time

Where attachment patterns come from

As children, we adapt to the love that's available. If caregivers were warm and steady, we learn that people can be trusted. If love was unpredictable, conditional, absent or frightening, we learn to cling, to go quiet, to perform or to need no one. Those strategies helped you survive. As an adult, they can keep you from the closeness you want.

How attachment healing works

  1. Understanding your pattern. We map how you protect yourself in relationships, and where it started.

  2. Feeling it in the body. Attachment fears live in the nervous system. We use somatic and polyvagal-informed tools to calm the alarm that goes off when you feel close or far.

  3. A secure relationship in therapy. A steady, consistent therapy relationship becomes a place to practice feeling safe with someone.

  4. New ways of connecting. You learn to ask for what you need, tolerate closeness and choose partners who can meet you.

For individuals and couples

Attachment healing is at the center of my individual work and my couples work. In couples counseling, I draw on Emotionally Focused Therapy, an attachment-based approach, to help partners understand each other's fears and become a safe place for each other. [Couples Therapy →]
